Farm Tours on Sunday, August 6

Spend the day visiting local farms on self-guided tours. See where you food comes from, how it is raised and eventually brought to market.

Join your friends and family for a drive in the beautiful Northern New Mexico countryside to learn firsthand about the amazing agricultural techniques utilized by your local farmers. You will see fields of pesticide-free vegetables, colorful flowers, fruit trees, honeybees, sheep, geese, turkeys, chickens, and much more. This is your opportunity to get to know your farmers in the rural New Mexico setting where your food is grown.

Remember to dress appropriately; wear casual and comfortable shoes and clothing, hats, and sunscreen. Please leave pets at home. Also, please note that farmers on the tour cannot provide public restrooms.

PARTICIPATING FARMS ARE:

Purple Adobe Lavender Farm (Abiquiu, NM)
The farm was established in 2004 to grow and provide efficient, expert growing solutions for growing the finest lavender.   Primary services include lavender plants sales, educational programs and information on growing lavender. They provide consultation, and of course our lavender bath and body product line found at the gift shoppe and in local stores.

Sage Coyote Farm (Tierra Amarilla. NM)
Sage Coyote Farm specializes in raising Red Devon Beef, Tibetan Yak and a few laying hens along with a small market garden. Their 360 acre farm is located 11 miles southwest of Tierra Amarilla on State Hwy 112 in northern New Mexico. They also utilize two leased properties in the area for summer grazing. The livestock they raise are specifically chosen to provide a far superior product in texture, flavor and tenderness to ordinary meat and they provide a diverse and stress-free environment to create gourmet beef and yak on 100% pasture.

C4 Farms (Los Ojos, NM)
C4 Farms is owned and operated by Tommy and Jessica Casados. They raise grass fed/grass finished beef in the Chama Valley of Northern New Mexico. Their cattle spend their entire lives grazing lush irrigated pastures utilizing an intensive grazing management system which allows them to produce a quality grass fed/grass finished beef product!

Evelyn’s Farm (Espanola, NM)
Named after Carlos and Lizeth’s daughter, Evelyn’s farm is 3 acres of chile, tomatoes, squash, cilantro, beans, and more New Mexican favorites. See firsthand what all-natural farming practices look like with the use of no pesticides, acequia-fed traditional watering systems, and hard work in the heart of the Española Valley.

Eves Farm (Velarde, NM)
Come learn about cooperative agriculture on a farm that has been organic for over 8 years. At Eve’s Farm, seasonally, you’ll find peaches, apricots, plums, apples, pears and delicious honey.  Come hungry, and be ready if you’d like to pick and enjoy your own fruit at the U-Pick price! Along with the farm tour, enjoy a bee demonstration, and a tour of the acequias (a traditional and ancient New Mexican irrigation system)

El Bosque Garlic Farm (Dixon, NM)
Come to El Bosque Garlic Farm for the beauty, the tall cottonwood shade, and the wide array of wild flowers, not to mention the scallions and garlic. Stan Crawford is a writer who came out to Dixon with his wife RoseMary in the late 1960s and built a home and studios there. Not only a farm, this place has also served as the inspiration for Stan’s many fiction books. Come see the land and hand-built structures, learn about the water-recycling and other self-sufficient systems that make this farm almost completely self-reliant, and spend time with a farmer who has held a strong presence at the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market since 1975.

Sunstar Herbs (Los Cerrillos, NM)
Dave and Becky Thorp, SunStar Herbs, concentrate on producing fresh and dried jujubes, garlic and various herbs in several small garden plots, using a modified waffle garden approach to desert gardening.

ZG Farms (Pecos, NM)
ZG Farms operates out of Pecos, NM. Along the scenic Pecos River, they farm a variety of vegetables and herbs on the East Pecos Acequia. Their off-grid Solar Power drip system is an innovative approach to sustainable soil and water management
